Germany 0 - Italy 2

Germany are out of the World Football Championship.

I had drafted a post for this moment which went something like this:

HAHAHAH HA HA HHAHAAAH AHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHHA HAH HAHAAAHA HAHAH AHAHA HAHAHAH HAHAHH AHAAAH AHAHAHA HAHA AHAHAHA HAHA HAHAH AHAHA HAHAH AH HAHAHH AHAAAH AHAHAHA HAHA AHAHAHA HAHA
HAHAHAH HAHA ... etc.

... and something similar for a few more paragraphs.

However, I don’t feel like that tonight at all. I love Germany and the German people (especially one of them, of course), and I think it’s a real pity they are out. It has truly been a delightful experience to see the roads regularly swarming with German flag waving fans, watching them, in a symbolic way, feel proud about being German, instead of living in the shadow of the WWII for a change. I’m told this is the first time Germans have ever been so bold with their flag waving, so something changed in the nation during this tournament, and it felt good.

Liebe deutsche Leser, mein Herzliches Beileid – nächstes mal, vielleicht (wenn England es nicht schaffen, natürlich).

I would feel badly for Germany too, if I were married to someone from there and were presently living there. But since neither apply, I am happy to cheer- yeah Italy!!!!!!

But, with you, I'm thrilled to see German nationalism and pride coming out of the shadows. Far too long overdue, in my opinion.

Our German friends have much to be proud of. Especially in the field we bibliobloggers all love.

Yeah 1) Italy should have lost to Australia 2) They play dirty.

Like you guys say, at least something good has come out of this cup. I finally feel more free to display German pride :)

Was more like Germany vs Wankers!

I was behind Deustchland too! Oh well, we can dream of an England/Germany final next time!!!

I live in Bedford which contains the largest Italian community in Europe outside Italy - the noise last night was appalling!!!

I was living in Toronto the last time Italy won the World Cup. I believe Toronto has the largest Italian community outside of Italy itself. And I'll tell you, Italy's victory triggered quite a party!

I wish I could be there Sunday, if Italy wins.

It would be interesting to see :)
I want the Aussies and the Germans to team up and beat the crap out of the Italians. For robbing the game from Australia, and for playing dirty with the Germans.

and now France has beaten Portugal 1-0. If Italy wins this world cup, it will be a false victory. Something they don't deserve to win, and should have never gone through.

Thanks for the link, Anon. Funny video!

We have a few Italians here too, but surprisingly, there wasn't too much fuss.

If Germany had won would the pubs and bars and trains and streets have been packed with people singing 83 choruses of 'Schade ,Italien. Alles ist vorbei'?

or 42 choruses of 'Miroslav Klose -Fussballgott!'

Hi Steven!
Had Germany won that game, I doubt it would have been easy to fall asleep for the noise of car horns!
