Some theological reflections on “revival”: a lecture

Following on from my post tabulating revival, here is the talk I gave at the HTB week away, Focus 2013.

Should we live for ‘revival’ and is this the ‘generation’ that will see it? http://www.htb.org.uk/media/theology-life-revival

The PowerPoint for the talk can be downloaded here.

I have not listened to the talk but I read the ppt and it looks really good. I have been burnt out by the endless deferral of the realization of evangelical revivalist expectations. (That was a naff sentence.)

Now when I hear the latest exciting reports of the new big move of God breaking out in X and how we need to catch the wave I just groan and avoid X like the plague. I have been to X and been disappointed too many times.

Good stuff. We need more evangelicals to sound warnings about the dangers of revivalism

Chris, I deeply appreciate your combination of belief in and constructive criticism of revival. I feel tempted to immediately write many things about revival, but I currently need to work on other writing projects while the goal of revival is always in the back of my mind.

I also appreciated hearing your voice and passion.

Peace,
Jim
