Did the Earliest Christians Believe Jesus was God?

Here is the hilarious flyer they have kindly circulated on campus at Loyola. Quintessentially British! Too good to pass up! And tis true, I was celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee when this was taken – Her Majesty was about to pass by in her boat on the Thames! And, of course, it was raining!

So, did the earliest Christians believe Jesus was God? Spoiler alert! My lecture takes about 45 minutes to say, “Yes!”
