The CTRVHM Music Ministry Comeback
In honour of Jonathan Edwards's sermon 'Sinners in the hands of an angry God', I have penned a moving new Sunday morning special. I won't post the whole version here, just the chorus, which goes to the tune of Boney M - Brown Girl In The Ring:
If it weren't for Jesus
Tra-la-la-la-la
God would hate me
Tra-la-la-la-la-la
I know, tears are probably welling up in your eyes already; I obviously have an anointing for this.
The song, by the way, is called 'With Grinning Expectancy God's Finger Perpetually Hovers Over the Smite Button'.

You say: "I obviously have an anointing for this"
I say: clearly [parts of] this Scripture prophesy and validate you and your ministry 1 John 2:20 "...You have been anointed by the Holy One..."
I was also randomly circling letters from my Bible and the first six I circled were C, T, R, V, H, M. I'm getting chills down my spine right now just thinking about it.
Thank you for the blessing of this song and title.
My understanding is that Edwards wasn't actually a very dynamic preacher. So you probably should consider setting this to something a little more mundane... like a country ballad.
Steve, perhaps Jonathan Edwards did not have quite the same level of anointing that our dear Chris has.
How bout these song lyrics?
Jesus and the fiery furnace.
Devil and the deep blue sea.
Preacher say I'm gonna burn in hell for all eternity.
But when I have my judgement day and I lock eyes with my savior, well,
This is what I'm gonna tell him when he asks about my behavior...
I'm gonna say;
God was drunk when he made me.
God was drunk when he made me.
God was drunk when he made me.
And that's why I'm so crazy.
Jesus and the fiery furnace.
Devil and the deep blue sea.
God was drunk when he made me...but that's okay 'cause
I forgive Him.
See if it was God who made forgiveness, then before that he musta made sin.
And who built the house of brotherly love, then let the Devil come dancing in?
If it was God that saved the miracle child from the peril of the fiery flame,
Well then it musta been him that killed the two hundred others just to glorify His name
That's why I say;
God was drunk when he made me.
God was drunk when he made me.
God was drunk when he made me.
And that's why I spout heresy.
Jesus and the fiery furnace,
Devil and the deep blue sea.
God was drunk when he made me but that's okay...'cause I forgive Him.
(By the same guy who made the indie film, "Wrong-Eyed Jesus)
Scott,
Funnily enough, if you rearrange the letters in my name "Chris", you get "Revival tent meeting"
Jonathan,
"Steve, perhaps Jonathan Edwards did not have quite the same level of anointing that our dear Chris has"
You get three gold stars for that one!
Edward,
This man is my padawan ... I am the Jedi. He has lots to learn of the force. And lots to repent of.
Ha ha. You've done it again. My church recently ran a lyrics writing contest, which I entered. The winner hasn't been announced yet. This was my first attempt at lyrics writing. I consciously avoided using personal pronouns, which I often find irritating, and wanted to express the fact that the Christian life is a shared experience, and not lived in a vacuum. I also wanted the words to express love for God, not in a gushy way, but love expressed in reverence and submission to His will. If I win, I'll leave it to others to decide how well I've done this.
