How they get here

An interesting search from Google landed on my blog a few hours ago: 'Can Christians use swear words during sex'!

?!?!?!

Not a question I've actually heard before, but valid enough I guess. I'm glad to see Chrisendom being used as a service for all kinds of concerns. To be even more helpful:

Yea, as it is written in Second Deuteronomy 55:16 'Thou canst employeth many colourful expletives during copulation, but only in the act of copulation and not out of it. Otherwise the offending partner shall be removed from the camp for 10 days, and all the members of his tribe shall pooreth old dish water out unto his gutter-mouth until his lesson about out-of-copulation-filthy-cursing hath been learned'

I was just imagining some poor fundamentalist newlywed who was just as surprised as his virgin wife (virgin ears, that is) when he dropped the f-bomb during sex. He is now frantically searching the web to see if it was okay or not.

Don't you mean Deutero-Deuteronomy?

'Can Christians use swear words during sex?'

I think this is a prima facie case for the supremacy of empirical observations for answering what appear at first sight to be abstract questions of morality, unrelated to actual instances in the real world.

My lawyer though, is advising me to think of a different defense.

But if you want to know, the answer is 'Yes, they can' and they did so on 42.73% of observable occasions.

Drew, are you sure that sexinchrist site is not a spoof? What were you looking for when you found it? Are you in need of one of Chris' ministries?

I might even get another hat tip from Dr. West for finding another one of the abundantly depraved or whatever :-)

Drawn to the grotesque like moth to flame I am...

I want to know why Drew knew of the porn site he directs you to...

ah, I see why... And I guess I don't know which is worse- his use of such a site or his participation in a google group featuring pagan atheists and other seedy sorts...

Drew's on the verge of a total depravity notice of his own.

To be precise, the question was "Can Christians use swear words during sex?" to which the answer must be "yes - unless they are rendered inarticulate."

The question addressed by Deutero-Deuteronomy seems to be "May Christians use swear words during sex?" which is a different issue altogether. I suggest you check out the original for a proper translation...

As Christians aren't supposed to do it for pleasure, one would expect one to swear in displeasure. As it is performed in order to procreate, the anticipation of domestic responsibility would cause one to swear. Not to mention - if one mentions the act while doing it, one swears. One can, one must and one will.

Here's an even better question: what did the search engine think it was pointing to, when suggesting this site as having an answer to that question?!

Any suggestions? Votes? Innuendoes?

Jim,

I have been accused of much worse I am sure :-)

You need to read my essay "Transgressing Boundaries in the Nine Inch Nails: The Grotesque as a Means to the Sacred". Like I said, moth to flame...

I perceive that Drew is a prophet. How else could he have known that I liked both N.W.A. and the Ghetto Boys?

As to that sex site, I pray it's a spoof but I have a feeling that it isn't. Like I said on Chaplin's blog, that link at the bottom that mentioned "fisting" scared me enough to not want to check it out...
