Any special recommendations for my Christmas list?
Under strict orders I am trying to gather together a "wish list" of books for people to purchase me over Christmas. If you have any suggestions as to what to add, I'd love to hear your ideas. What books would you hands down urge me to get? Of course, I may already have your suggestions, but it can't hurt to hear them anyway. My present Amazon wish list looks pretty nice already, but I get the feeling it needs improvement!

I just picked up Beale, "commentary on the new testament use of the old testament"
I'm currently enjoying
Balentine, "The Torah's Vision of Worship"
May I suggest this as the first part in what will clearly be an exhaustive guide, or perhaps this if you want to keep up your reading in German, and it will clearly be less of a hagiography.
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Christianity by Jeffrey B. Webb.
Tailoring recommendations to the fact you are an NT teacher: "The Word Leaps the Gap", Richard Hays' festschrift (presented to him at this year's SBL) looks like a cracker; "The Gospel of John and Christian Theology"; and, seeing as you're sometimes into the creation v evolution debate, "Creation and Evolution: A Conference with Pope Benedict XVI in Castel Gandolfo".

Because Christmas should be a time of getting things you will enjoy but not necessarily need. I recommend one of the most delightful books I've read in a long while. Jonah Lehrer's "Proust was a Neuroscientist". It has nothing to do with Biblical Studies or even Theology. But it is so darn interesting.

Two suggestions: The Ehrman companion volumes, LOST CHRISTIANITIES and LOST SCRIPTURES (I am very curious to know what you think of them.)
And for general comparison reference, the most complete DVD from the "Internet Sacred Text Archive" -- which includes everything in the public domain on anything from Arianism to Zoroastrianism -- including a complete script for MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL (look under "Arthurian")
