I promised myself for a long time, that upon completion of my PhD I would treat myself to a really good espresso machine. After weeks of research, I decided to take the plunge (not the sort of thing I easily do). Behold, my new Bugatti Diva:
In my excitement I made myself three delicious espressos for myself before work, today. So I was just a bit jittery giving the early morning lecture on NT Greek! I have tried a couple with foamed milk, but I am yet to get the hang of this new steam foam system – the jet is much stronger than my old pump espresso. I'm poorer now for sure, but heck, I'm loving my espresso shots like never before.
You did seem even more bright of eye and bushy of tail today than usual (at least in the morning, before the caffeine shots wore off)... and it's good to see that the talk of installing an I-V drip next to your desk for the regular administration of said caffeine has been put on hold for now.
ReplyDeletewhat the? out of nowhere Herr Tilling is blogging again... ausgezeichnet!
ReplyDeleteSo now that you will be more awake can we expect more regular blog posts? Or is your silliness and profundity reserved only for paying customers?
ReplyDeletethe trick is to have the tip of the steam wand just (and I mean just) under the milk when you turn it on, then you move the jug down slightly to stretch the milk, only for a second or two. Then put the wand into the milk, angling the jug to get that extra steam pressure swirling your milk around in a whirlpool (this mixes your milk).
ReplyDeleteSweet machine. You'll never go back to a crappy home machine ever again. Enjoy
On a train in 5 minutes; see you in about 2 hours.
ReplyDeleteThat thing is awesome!
Very cool! However, you did not mention what your wife thinks of the graduation gift/loss of countertop space...
ReplyDeleteMike W, thanks for that advice!
ReplyDeleteSeriously guys, the espresso I am making .... it is utterly glorious! Amazing!
heyyy well done! I'd noticed these very machines on ebay and wondered what they'd be like... and I even have the same mugs as you...
ReplyDeleteJust think how much quicker you'd have completed your phd if you'd bought the machine before you submitted ;-D
ReplyDelete(still working on mine...)
How do I get a good shot of espresso from my new Bugatti diva.
ReplyDeleteIt comes out too fast and it's just black no froth at all.I don;t know what I'm doing wrong
@ bontyspass
ReplyDeleteMake sure that you are using a good (fresh) bean, grind it at the right finness level, that you tamper the powder with the right pressure, use the right amount of coffee - then you should be flying. I wouldn't use the machine with those pods - and depending on where you are you may need to chance the grill for that (easily done in a few minutes). I have been VERY happy with my Bugatti - I am making the best espresso of my life by miles.
Let me know if you still have problems.
